ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Highways’ Traffic Engineering Division will hold a community outreach open house on Monday, February 23rd from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., at the Event Hall at the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department, to present traffic calming plans for Loudon Avenue in Elkridge. The proposed project calls for the installation of speed humps, speed hump signs, and speed reduction markings along Loudon Avenue.

“In Howard County, we are committed to making our streets and roads safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers. Through our Neighborhood Traffic Calming program, we are bringing more traffic calming solutions to neighborhoods to slow down speeds and improve safety across the county,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball. “Since we updated our Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy last year, we have invested more than $1.3 million in neighborhood traffic calming projects across the county. When complete, these neighborhood streets in Elkridge will be safer and more friendly for all road users.”

During this open house event, DPW staff will be on hand to discuss the proposed traffic calming design, answer questions, and gather public comments.

After the open house, the proposed plans will be available on DPW’s Traffic Engineering Division’s “Traffic Calming” website for those to view who were unable to attend the event. At that time, community members may also submit questions and comments about the proposed project to the Traffic Engineering Division via email at traffic@howardcountymd.gov; emails must be submitted by no later than March 9, 2026.
