Assisted Living
Assisted Living homes are licensed by the Maryland Department of Health, Office of Health Care Quality (OHCQ). OHCQ inspects these homes to ensure compliance with COMAR 10.07.14. Inspection reports for these homes may be reviewed by emailing OHCQ at ohcq.pia@maryland.gov.

When selecting a facility, you will need to find a community that meets your location needs and financial situation. You may also contact the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program for information and insight. Ombudsmen investigate concerns and complaints, educate and empower residents and families, and advocate for residents' health, safety, and well-being.

- Obtain the most current survey information by contacting the Office of Health Care Quality.

Advocates
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program advocates for the health, safety, and well-being of residents in assisted living and nursing homes. The Ombudsman can also assist with important information about Resident's Rights, regulations, and requirements in these settings. Report Abuse
- If you suspect abuse in a long-term care setting, contact Howard County Department of Social Services Adult Protective Services unit at (410) 872-8823 or 1-800-91-PREVENT (1-800-917-7383).

Supports for assisted living include a combination of housing and services to help people live in the least restrictive environment while maintaining the highest levels of stability and safety. Most assisted living programs are paid for with private funds. The Office on Aging and Independence offers several resources that may be able to help.
