ELLICOTT CITY, MD – A BGE project to remove an uprooting tree contacting overhead electrical lines near 4013 New Cut Road in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin on or about Wednesday, April 15th, 2026.

New Cut Road will be closed in both directions between Hillsborough Road and College Avenue during construction hours for one day, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Detour signs and variable message boards will be in place to guide motorists during construction. Northbound traffic will be directed to Hillsborough Road eastbound, then Village Crest Drive northbound, and College Avenue northbound, reconnecting with New Cut Road at St. Paul Street. Southbound traffic will be directed to College Avenue southbound, Village Crest southbound, and Hillsborough Road westbound, reconnecting with New Cut Road.

While the County and its transportation partners work hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones, drivers are reminded to stay alert and look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers. Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when traveling through a work zone. Remember, work zone safety is in your hands.

For questions or concerns about this BGE project, contact Public Works Customer Service at 410-313-3440 or email publicworks@howardcountymd.gov.
