ELLICOTT CITY, MD - Howard County’s Office of Transportation (OoT) will hold an open house-style public meeting on Tuesday, April 21st, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bain 50+ Center in Columbia, to present its proposed Complete Streets pedestrian and bicycle improvement plans for Harpers Farm Road between Cedar Lane and Litte Patuxent Parkway. The plans include newly resurfaced road asphalt, bike lane markings, segments of pathway and sidewalk, bike transition ramps, marked crosswalks, mid-block pedestrian crossing, and applicable signage.

Complete Streets infrastructure creates neighborhood connections and provides our residents safe and healthy transportation options to move around their communities. To help us expand multimodal transportation in Howard County, my proposed Fiscal Year 2026 Capital Budget included $13.8 million in County funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, pathways, and other Complete Streets infrastructure that makes projects like this possible.

While there will be no formal presentation, OoT staff and project consultants will be on hand to discuss the proposed improvements, answer questions, and gather public comments.

Those unable to attend the meeting who would like to view the plans and/or have questions, should contact Mr. Chris Eatough, OoT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, at 410-313-0567 or email ceatough@howardcountymd.gov. Immediately following the public meeting, the meeting materials will be available on OoT’s “BikeHoward Implementation through Resurfacing Projects” website. From this same website, community members will also be able to access an online survey to share their thoughts and feedback about the proposed project plans; the survey will be available through Friday, May 8th.
