Today, County Executive Calvin Ball highlighted Howard County’s 2020 Census response rate of 79.9%, which has surpassed the 2010 rate of 76.7%. The rate is 34th highest in the nation out of 3,215 counties and 2nd highest in Maryland. Howard County’s internet response rate of 74.7% is the best in the state.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball and command members from the County Police and Fire Departments and Howard County Sheriff’s Office, will honor and pay tribute to all who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, including the four victims from Howard County, with a remembrance wreath laying ceremony.

A BGE project to complete maintenance work on two utility poles located near 8116 Main Street in Ellicott City is scheduled to begin at midnight on Sunday, September 13th. As a result of the work, Main Street near Maryland Avenue will be closed from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. on the 13th.

Today, County Executive Calvin Ball announced $60,581 in CARES Act funding for Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) to assist residents facing eviction and other legal challenges exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant will help provide the education, assistance and representation needed to prevent evictions in forthcoming failure to pay rent proceedings.

A BGE project to complete maintenance work on two utility poles located near 8116 Main Street in Ellicott City, is scheduled to begin at midnight on Monday, September 14th. Main Street near Maryland Avenue will be closed from 1:00 to 6:00 a.m. on the 14th as a result.

The grant award will help the regional “Planting the Future” initiative by funding a full-time Restoration Coordinator for a 30-month period in Howard County and allow the County's Department of Recreation & Parks to ramp up its existing programs, such as its Stream ReLeaf and Turf to Trees programs.

Effective 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 4, Howard County will move forward with Governor Hogan’s modified Phase 3 plan of reopening, which includes the opening of enclosed and outdoor theatres with various restrictions and the loosening of restrictions on retail and religious facilities. 

ELLICOTT CITY, MD – Howard County today joined a large coalition of state attorneys general, cities, counties, and the bipartisan U.S. Conference of Mayors in taking legal action against the Trump Administration’s impairment of the 2020 Decennial Census.

Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7. There will be no trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap pick-up on Labor Day. The county’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect.
