Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers, courts and animal shelter will be closed on Thursday, November 11th in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday. However, regular trash, recycling, yard trim and food scrap services will be in effect and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open. 

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking a member of the general public (the position requires no professional training in health occupations or services) interested in serving on the County’s Board of Health. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

A CSX Railroad maintenance project to repair and reconstruct the railroad crossing and roadway at Dorsey Run Road in Jessup, will close the roadway from approximately 9:00 a.m., November 9th. to 3:00 p.m., November 11th. During this time, traffic will be detoured via Patuxent Range Road, US 1 and MD 175.

 Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today celebrated the opening of Centennial Park North’s new Sensory-Friendly Play Experience playground.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball was joined by local officials to provide an overview of vaccine administration for 5 to 11 year-olds.

The driver and sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

On the evening of November 16th, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball delivered his 2021 State of the County address, outlining the incredible progress Howard County has made throughout the past year despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. During his speech, Ball touted some of the highest vaccination rates in the State contributing to low case rates and a sense of normalcy for many residents and he announced $2 million in funding for enhanced mental health services in schools.

Howard County’s innovative entrepreneur accelerator program, “HoCo Higher” ended last week with a pitch competition and three winners who will receive $21,000 in total funding. The 25 entrepreneurs that completed the inaugural class received $5,000 in seed money. HoCo Higher is a joint partnership between County Executive Calvin Ball, M&T Bank and Howard County Economic Development Authority.

Howard County Government offices, 50+ centers, courts, animal shelter, Recreation & Parks’ community and athletic centers, activity rooms and historic sites, and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving Day holiday. As there will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Thanksgiving Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week. County park gates will be open on the 25th; however, there will be no staff on duty.
