Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has issued an Expression of Interest for a Master Plan that will guide the transformation of the Gateway Business Park into the premier “Innovation District” on the east coast. The County’s pending General Plan Update, HoCo By Design, calls for a bold redevelopment of the 1,000+ acre industrial and office park into a major hub for employment, entertainment and innovation.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball has announced $22 million in funding to renovate Faulkner Ridge Center to expand universal pre-K services. Ball’s investment, in partnership with State, County, and community leaders, is a major step toward the full implementation of the State-mandated Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. When completed, the center will create 260 new seats for universal Pre-K.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball is seeking applicants to fill vacancies on the Adult Public Guardianship Review Board, specifically an attorney, a lay person, a person with a physical disability and a physician who is not a psychiatrist.

A developer project to widen Albeth Road at the intersection of Marriottsville Road, as well as add a right turn lane from southbound Marriottsville Road onto Albeth, for a new housing development in Marriottsville, is expected to begin or about Monday, May 8th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to take two weeks to complete.

Howard County’s Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Utilities has announced it is resuming its residential water meter replacement program effective immediately. As existing water meters in the system are approaching their useful life, with some already failing resulting in the need to estimate water bills, it is vital these meters be replaced to ensure accurate and timely water usage data is obtained. 

The Howard County Human Rights Commission is seeking nominations for its 2023 James E. Henson, Sr. and Jean W. Toomer Individual, Dr. Murray Simon Student and Colette Roberts Organization awards. Presented annually, these awards honor individuals and community organizations who have made significant contributions to human and civil rights in Howard County.

The County's Department of Public Works’ Transportation and Special Projects Division will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 1st to present plans for a multi-modal travel improvement project along Rogers Avenue between US 40 and Courthouse Drive, which will include the widening of Rogers Avenue. Weather permitting and pending final land acquisition, the project is expected to begin this summer and take 24 months to complete.

A Howard County construction project to construct sidewalk along Frederick Road near Centennial Lane in Ellicott City, is expected to begin on or about Monday, May 15th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the middle of June.

A Howard County construction project to extend the sidewalk along eastbound Montgomery Road from Rowanberry Drive to Timberlee Road in Elkridge, is expected to begin on or about Thursday, June 15th. Weather permitting, this entire project is expected to be completed by the start of the 2023-2024 school year.
