Howard County’s Office of Transportation and Department of Public Works’ Transportation and Special Projects Division will host two in-person community engagement opportunities this May, to provide an update on the new extension of the US 29 Flash Bus Rapid Transit from Montgomery County to Howard County. 

The County's Department of Public Works’ Bureau of Highways’ Traffic Engineering Division will hold a second community outreach meeting on Tuesday, May 20th, to present its final traffic calming plans for Columbia’s Phelps Luck Drive and High Tor Hill. The project will implement strategies available in the County’s recently updated Howard County Neighborhood Traffic Calming Policy, to combat excessive vehicular speeds along these two roadways. 

The County’s Office of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Thursday, May 22nd, to present its initial feasibility study findings and concept plans for proposed Complete Streets pedestrian and bicycle improvement plans for Montgomery Road between Deborah Jean Drive and Rowanberry Drive.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today unveiled the transformational Old Ellicott City Trolley, a new public transportation service coming to historic Ellicott City’s Main Street starting Saturday, May 17th, to better connect residents, employees, and visitors to businesses and historical resources in historic Ellicott City.

Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today submitted a budget amendment to the proposed Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) budget to increase funding to the Howard County Public School System.

The Howard County Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Management Division will hold a community outreach meeting on Tuesday, June 10th, to discuss a project to repair the Oaktree Stormwater Pond near 9238 Curtis Drive in Columbia.

The Howard County Office of Transportation will hold a Transportation Open House on Thursday, January 30th, to discuss the planning, design, operations and maintenance of the County's transportation systems. The event will also offer attendees the opportunity to learn more about the multitude of transportation options, modes, agencies and upcoming projects in Howard County.

Howard County Government offices, courts, 50+ centers and animal shelter will be closed in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday on Monday, January 20th. There will be regular Monday curbside trash, recycling and food scrap collections on the 20th and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be open.
